THE OUTLAW DRAGS MEETING HISTORY

The first "Outlaw Drags" meeting was originally run by the racers for the racers. It started from a club meeting organized by the Waikato Drag Racing Club Inc back on the 21 st February 1993 with 40 cars and bikes, and another meeting on the 16 th October 1994, as the event started to grow in size the Chrysler Charger club and Wheels Inc joined the Waikato Drag Racing Club to assist with the organizing of the event in 1997, as the years went by the Chrysler Charger Club pulled out of the organizing, and the other clubs continued, In 2007 Wheels inc also pulled out of organizing the event and Waikato Drag racing Club commencing running the event independently.

Once the event took on the title as the "Outlaw Drags" the "NZ Petrolhead" Magazine came onboard from this first meeting, and they still remain as our major sponsor. This is a relationship that we are very pride of and continue to build on this personal relationship with Alistair Davidson.

It was a means of giving something back to the competitors in the form of prizemoney, trophies and sponsor product packs. Held at the end of the season an opportunity for fellow competitors to get together, have some fun and go racing.

The event is always held on Easter Sunday each year, which gives racers the opportunity to travel there and back without taking extra days off work. Cars travel from as far away from Whangarei, New Plymouth and Wellington making the annual trip. In the past we have had the event rained off and have had to cancel it. There is no rain date on the following day as it is Easter Monday and Transit New Zealand will not allow the event to be run on the Monday because of the risk of traffic congestion of holiday makers returning home from the long weekend past the venue.

As the event has no restricting rules, this event gives the opportunity for some racers to run their vehicles with no class rules, there is no fuel type restricitions, no restrictions and additional weights to their cars (known as ballast) can be removed to make their vehicles lighter. This is why you see vehicles going faster than they may have gone in their respective brackets during the year. With these cars fully unleashed to their full potential most racers that have to comply with these rules create new personal bests in which they try and improve on the following year.
